EJC2006: Big win for France

Category: - published 2006-07-26 by EFAF

France won group A when defeating an uninspired Russia 62-0. Russia needs to wait for the result between Sweden and Finland later on tonight before they know what placement game they will play in the weekend.

France started of the game with a long 89 yd drive that took almnost the full first quarter. Finally Tristan Baldini got the honor to make the TD with a 3 yd run. Russia came back with almost equally long drive but at the french 2nd yd line the drive ended with a fumble that was recovered by France that gave them inspiration and the rest of the game belonged to them. With 394 yd rushing, 127 yd passing and 26 first downs!! the french team was superiour and before the first half was over they were up 28-0. The french Wing-T dominated the Russian defens. The two hard working russin brothers Khotsinskiy, Yory and Dmitry that got his second MVP award, did not have anything to put up. The french offesive line, with MVP Arnaud Couanon Vertueux as their front man was very solid and they rotated most players in the team. Another 34 points was added in the second half with 2 TD from Jean Bernard Duarte was as much the good play by the french as an uninspired Russia but if France continue to play like this they will be favourites going into the final that will be played on Sunday. Whom they will face will be decided tomorrow when the Austrian and German teams will play a deciding game who will win the second group.
Russian HC Dobriakov was very dissapointed after the game and said that the french team won on their speed and that the french defens played much better than he expected.

French HC Paul Vincent Miraval were more happy how his team performed. They have played better and better the longer the Championship has gone but he doesn’t think that they are the favourites in the final. Now they have three days of before the final to rest and get into shape. They will tour Stockholm with the players and have light practises. They will also make some minor adjustments on their own game and set up a good game plan for the final.
