Amsterdam with the better final chance, international premiere for Frankfurt

On Saturday, not only the BIG6 is going in the decisive games. Also in the EFL at least one finalist of the EFL bowl is determined after this weekend.

In group A the Amsterdam Crusaders face the Hamburg Huskies at the Sportpark Sloten at 3 p.m. The Dutch have the best situation after their 31-24-victory over the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes in their first game. On the other hand the Huskies lost versus the reigning EFL-champion of Kiel clearly with 33:61.

Only with a victory with 50 points difference, the Huskies can still reach the final. For Amsterdam, a simple victory, even a draw is enough to earn a place in the EFL bowl. However, the Dutch have the quality to believe in their own strength. The tow-time Eurobowl champion is still undefeated in this season and allowed for the first time twelve points of an opponent last weekend, while making also 76(!) points to win easily another game in their home league.

The self-confidence of the Huskies, however, should not be very high after a loss in the EFL game versus Kiel (33-61) and their GFL opener versus the reining German and BIG6 champion New Yorker Lions (3-44). But so far, it was not an easy start program for last year's surprise team of the GFL. The hardest massage for the team from Hamburg after the game versus Braunschweig was the bad knee injury of quarterback Jordan Perry, who is out now for the rest of the season. Nevertheless sports director Patrick Esume remains combative: "In spite of the bitter circumstances to our playmaker we go to the Netherlands to win there."

In group B the Samsung Frankfurt Universe enters the European stage for the first time in the club´s history. After the meteoric rise in the GFL the Universe wants to have a say now on the European level. In their first game in the German top class they lost tight at the vice champion Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns.

But Europe is then still another number and no one knows how Frankfurt will accept this. The first opponent in the EFL are the Thonon Black Panthers. The French top club receives the team from Hessen on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Stade Joseph Moynat near Lake Geneva.

The Black Panthers had in a dramatic first game of EFL, which they lost 41-46 at the Badalona Dracs. Now they are already under big pressure against the Samsung Frankfurt Universe. Anything else but a victory means the elimination in the group phase. In the French league, it also runs anything but good with only one victory and five losses. The only positive aspect is that they had in all games the chance to win and the young team learned more from game to game.
